I guess a sting operation by the NT Police nailed the beer vendors selling to a decoy underage person and shut down the beer sales halfway thru the Darkstar Orchestras preformance last Saturday... Bruce Hornsby has already moved his show to Buffalo so this Saturday is scrapped....Lawyers on both sides are talking to try to get the beer sales permit back, but it doesn't look good...... I imagine beer sales are better that 3/4 the revenue stream to pay for the shows..By the way, wasn't Kenny Wayne Shepherd awesome? Going to Artpark tonight for Walter Trout and Watermelon Slim...two great guitar players that are always a great show...
Why is the drinking age set at 21 in the first place, when in most western countries the drinking age is set at an average of 18? (Germany has the drinking age of beer set at 16 and spirits at 18)*
Who are we kidding when we all know that young ADULTS start experimenting with alcohol in their teens? Why not let them do it in an open and free enviroment?
Maybe 18 is too young but the drinking age should be no more then 19. Why doesn't anyone lobby or address the legislation of this bogus law?
How is this not a set up. I see bars that get busted all the time in the paper for the same thing. Only this time it takes one bust. Come on. We all know why this was done.
There sure seems to be something rotten in this...Labatts has pulled its sponsership and it is anybodys guess what happens next. It would seem a little drastic to shut down the main income stream for the promoters with this incident...I'm sure it was an error by one sales person that should be reprimanded, but the punishment does not justify the crime in this instance. There has been no problems at this site since the concerts started, everyone is really well behaved and it is a great atmosphere to watch live music. Canal Fest has turned into young punk fest with the Police Beat being filled with disorderly conducts, fighting and general public stupidity and I hope this is not a carryover make-up punishment for a weeklong carnival that has outgrown its venue...the music shows have nothing to do with Canalfest.
I guess the powers that be in NT have no problem looking stupid or as they have a vendetta. This just is another example of the arrogance that comes with being elected to a political office. Untouchables?
IRONICALLY....LOL....the wednesday vendors have now been shut down for sales to minors..(had nothing to do with that editorial I'll bet!!!!) and a new local vendor has been found....gotta love this city. Rumour has it MILF is the undercover decoy....where is Wadi Sawabini when you need him?
