Did Biden win the debate? You bet'cha, doggone it!

Okay, a coupla observations about last night's debate...

First of all, did Sarah Palin have something in her eye? What was up with all of the winking and kiss blowing? I could have lived without it. I coulda lived without her sashaying all over the stage with her special needs child. Yes, okay, we get it, you're the compassionate conservative. So why does it never come up that as the Governor of Alaska, she CUT funding to DD/MR service providers? This was, however, before she had her own DD child, so I guess since it directly affects her, so suddenly she cares.

And the week of coaching was certainly very transparent. Obviously she "crammed" for this debate. Ed Shultz pointed out that it isn't the initial question that hangs her up, but the follow-up questions. Why? Because she has been programmed, spoonfed all of her answers...or should I say talking points, because she really didn't actually answer many questions, instead choosing to freelance with her limited knowledge from the past week. Why else would they sequester her away all week at McCain's compound if they were so confident in her abilities?

Plus, we already have a President who can't pronounce nuclear.

My cousin mentioned that he was riding home from work during the first half of the debate, and how horrible she sounded when you weren't looking at her smiling and winking and carrying on in that adorable folksy way that she does.

Did anyone else notice that whenever Joe Biden was talking, she was reading her notes and smiling vaguely? Ah, Gawd, gee whiz! What should I say? Joe Biden was actually speaking and answering questions with answers and examples, like a normal, thoughtful person, and she, in turn did not answer questions, but just twisted them around and kept saying the same thing over and over and over?

What a disaster. Maverick, my ass!

My dad had a name for people like Sarah Palin....avoiding questions, using silly buzz phrases (say it ain't so Joe!) diverting answers to prescripted dialogue, winking at the audience (I guess thats for the MILF lovers) This day and age of reality tv shows I guess anything that looks presentable can pass the test to be vice president...or president...there are people that are going to vote for her simply because of that mini skirt and glass of wine picture, her skinning a moose or yelling "Drill! Drill! Drill!...

Oh, that word my dad used?

Let's face it: All she really had to do was show up wearing matching shoes and her blazer buttoned correctly, and she would have exceeded expectations.

Someone mentioned that it was very disrespectful to our veterans to imply that by having a withdrawal plan, that the Democrats are "waving the white flag of surrender..." And then proceeding to use her 90 seconds by saying a bunch of jibberish.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said, "Democrats don't cut and run, they stop and think." Ain't it the truth?

But she sure was "Maverick-y" wasn't she?bleh.gif

I have a word for Sarah Palin, too: Post-turtle.

Palin's expectations were so lowered by her ghastly performance in her recent interviews, that all she had to do was not accidentally set the moderator on fire, and she's the winner?!?! Hell no. THe first thing Palin supporters shouted at her detractors was "Sexist!" Well, if we're not going to be sexist, Palin must be judged on level ground with her opponent. And compared to Biden, Palin bombed. Biden was solid in his understanding of the issues. He was firm, but not mean. He confidently opposed every pre-scripted accusation Palin threw his way. He wasn't afraid to show passion where necessary. And he only had one major gaffe.

Palin couldn't answer questions in a straightforward manner, or more often, she refused to answer questions. She actually voiced her intent to ignore the moderators queries and babble on about something irrelevant to the current topic. She was completely unable to articulate how a McCain administration would be different from a Bush administration. She made several factual errors, especially concerning the surge and Iraq troop levels. She was continuously reading, not referring to, but reading off of cue cards on her podium. She demonstrated her ability to regurgitate talking points, but not think on her feet and really talk about what she felt.

It's all well and good to be personable and folksy, especially when you're trying to connect with your audience, and at best, it makes Palin a good salesperson. But she's still trying to sell a failed, faulty product. The inability to use prepositions, the kitchy jargon, the winking, it all came across as being very unprofessional. Not someone I want in potentially in command of nuclear weapons.

And what is a post-turtle? When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle. He didn't get there by himself, he doesn't belong there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just want to help the poor thing get down.

OMG that is so funny!
He or she as the case may be.

While "I don't cotton to" (another old 'folksy' sayin--don't go there ;*) any animal abuse, the above mental image and analogy is as perfect as it gets. "Post-turtle."

Hey, hi Ratty! Re: what your cousin heard: When I was listening to her and not watching, I keep hearing the character of the woman-sheriff from that movie 'Fargo.' The accent Sarah P. has sounds like a cross between someone from Sudbuur-ry, Ontario-oh, eh (?) and a  "Minnesotan," as SL said during the debate.

Sarah and Nukes?
The Duck and Cover 'turtle...' "I can see Russia from my porch."

The post-turtle image is absolutely it! Dead on!

Hey NL! That is what I thought...Marge from Fargo. What the hell kind of accent is that? Does everyone in Alaska speak like that?

On CNN the other day, they did a little fluff piece from the place in Alaska where you actually can see Russia (Google Little Diomede). It is this tiny (population about 300) remote aboriginal village, and most of the people who live there only have a marginal idea of who Sarah Palin is, as it is very remote, like middle of the Bering Strait remote.

Soooo, if that constitutes "foreign policy experience" then I suppose that we are all ready to lead. Because I am sure every one on here has actually been to Canada!
And I'll tell you what, if she and McSame win the election, I, fone may be seeing a whole hell of a lot more of Canada...on a permanent basis

And, hell, Mike Tucker is like, super-qualified! Isn't Lockport bigger than Wasilla?

And what was that bizarro stream-of-consciousness gibberish about "The head of Putin rearing up in the sky over US airspace? Huh? Weird. All I could picture when she was saying that was those characature balloons that they sell in the Party Store in the shape of Putin's head....weirdface.gif

... and she doesn't look like such a "hottie" either in this black & white photo
taken several years ago at the Wasilla Post-Turtle Training Center.

How long did it take to find that image?

That's hilarious.
